HL7 Interfaces National Standard
Apex Healthware develops Health Level Seven (HL7) interfaces that connect medical devices and reference labs to Electronic Health Records (EHRs), and other, Applications.
Health Level Seven (HL7), is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization involved in development of international healthcare standards.
HL7 is also used to refer to some of the specific standards created by the organization.
HL7 and its members provide a framework (and related standards) for the exchange, integration, sharing and retrieval of electronic health information.
Health Level Seven is one of several American National Standards Institute (ANSI) -accredited Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) operating in the healthcare arena. HL7 V2.x supports clinical practice and the management, delivery, and evaluation of health services, and is the most commonly used in the world.
EHR HL7 Interfaces
With the growing adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHR) in the clinical setting, there is increasing demand for integration of diagnostic instrumentation into EHR systems. Where this integration is not available, the transcribing or scanning of test results into the EHR system is often a logjam, detracting from the potential efficiencies of a paperless office.
The international standard HL7 interface for lab requests and/or results provides the best solution for integration to reference labs, practice management and EHR software. If you have an Application that generates and/or accepts HL7 transactions the Apex Laboratory Information System will process lab and other diagnostic requests and generate results that automatically interface with your Application. This automation dramatically improves workflow quality and eliminates the need to manually key results into your EHR.
In most cases the EHR vendor will charge a fee to connect an HL7 interface. In order to minimize miscommunication with the EHR vendor on the technical nature of the Apex HL7 interface it is best if Apex is able to talk to the EHR vendor prior to your purchase in order to ensure you are not overcharged for the HL7 interface services based on a misunderstanding and that the EHR vendor will be able to process lab orders and/or results. Note that many EHRs can process lab results but cannot send orders using HL7.
Lab Device Interfaces
Apex can provide a custom interface from any lab device to your Application. Apex has substantial expertise using ASTM, TCP/IP and other standard and non-standard protocols used to communicate with lab devices.
Reference Lab Manager
HL7 Reference Lab Interfaces
Apex provides HL7 interfaces for both orders and results to all Reference Labs. These modules are available as add-ons to the Apex LIS or as stand-alone modules with or without an EHR interface.
